Admin: Dyadin 2.0?
Author: Glenn "Procrastinator" Song
Date: Sat, October 8 2005, 12:22:03 am

We updated Dyadin. A couple months ago. For DiGra. Go ahead, click on the link and experience Dyadin 2.0 with a friend. What's new? We fixed some more memory leaks and that whole thing where it crashes after you die 26 times. We used to tell people that was the punishment for being a terrible player, but in fact it was just a programming glitch. Download and enjoy.

Our game seems to have stumbled across a few web pages out there. I don't know if this violates some weird social blogging taboo, but I'm posting those sites that have linked to us. Maybe this just means we are full of ourselves. Hmmm. Anyway!

Admin: GDC Day 5: Day 1!!!

THIS...is a MOMENT...frozen IN TIME...

You have to see it. Now that the GDC is over we can show you this, not like we couldn't during the show, but we decided to show you after the show. It's from the first day of GDC while we were setting up our computers to test Dyadin.

Oh and that's Rick's voice.

*UPDATE*

Some more pictures from our GDC adventure. Today, or yesterday, since it's 2 AM as I type this, was the last day of the exhibition and of our GDC adventure. Tomorrow will start a new one: doing all the homework, midterms, and other miscellanous crap that we didn't do because of the GDC.

Until that moment arrives, enjoy the final images from the Dyadin Team's GDC 2005 trip.

Look at what we stole, er, got. Remember children, stealing is wrong...Kinda.

Also, kids, punching is wrong. Maybe.

This though...is just wrong. Seriously.

Meet Keita Takahashi the creator of Katamari Damashii. It seems to rythme.

Glenn, the Prince of the Cosmos, and Keita Takahashi creator of Katamari Damashii.

The adorable Prince gives us a lecture in how to roll over things with a katamari, since he didn't say much and rolled over the audience, it was a fairly successful lecture.

So tired. Quick, quick rundown: people saw our game, said it was cool. I went to the AI round table. It was cool. Silent Hill 4 not cool (unfortunately). PIctures. Cool.

IGF Student Showcase.

Dyadin Team at the IGF Awards. Not pictured, lots of breaking of glass objects and enemies.

The guys from War, Siege, and Conquest: Battle for Gaia. We wanted to battle them in Street Fighter. Well, Rick does.

The guy that created my mostest favoritious game in the whole world. Katamari Damashii wins for Innovative Game and Best Game Design.

Apparently they don't like the way I take pictures.

Rick in bullet time, pinging the hell out of Mike.

Admin: Praise, but more importantly a man in a monkey suit.

Dyadin dies(-adin) after you die(-won't do it again) 20 times. That's quite a bug, or an undocumented feature as we like to call it in the software industry. Regardless of our additional features, people seem to like it. For us this is great kleenex testing, since this is also the second time we're really doing any kind of usability testing to speak of.

To be honest, we've never done this before...you know, make a video game, have the judges at a huge independent game competition like it, and then get a boat load of praise for it. Here's some praise from C|Net Download:

"Every so often we run across a download that's so unusual that we're willing to overlook various shortcomings, such as a 36.45MB file size (that's before unzip, folks). This game might not be ready for wide release, but if you're looking for some truly fresh gaming ideas (and luscious graphics A?a?A¬a?? you certainly get your download's worth on visual execution here), check out this two-player collaborative puzzler frpm the smart folk at USC. Yes, USC is now emitting games, and as freeware no less. Go know."

More importantly now, a man in a monkey suit.

A geriatric Donkey Kong. He gave me a banana. Pen.

The Dyadin Team at the Independent Game's Pavillion

The Sony Metreon. If you suddenly feel the urge to part with 10,000 dollars you can remove that burden here and gain a large array of liquid plamsa or something ridiculous like a Playstation.

Admin: GDC Day 1: The Great American Road Trip
Author: Glenn "Procrastinator" Song

So we disembarked at 10 am from Los Angeles and began the "Great American Roadtrip" to San Francisco and the Game Developer's Conference. To make a 370 mile story short, we made it at 5:11 pm and now I can regal you with images from our journey since I grabbed my digital camera and aimed it out the window of Todd's car every 3 minutes to shoot pictures. Some were blurry, some were good, but what can you expect from a guy with zero photography skill other than the ability to shoot from the hip. You will be amazed and excited. There is a picture of cows.

Oh, sorry if the load times are slow, something maybe up with the server.

Presently: Cows on I-5; Later: Hamburgers

Erin, Jenova, and Rick's Hand.

Jenova and Todd

Dog driving the car. It actually happened.

House by I-5

Mike glued his headset permanently to his head.

It's like Gran Turismo 4, with worse graphics.

Todd raced a big rig after we pissed off a bunch of truckers. Not pictured: the 40 big rigs behind us trying to run us off the road.

If you thought those pictures had something to do with actually being at the GDC, then you were wrong.

I updated the "Team" section to include a link for emailing the team. Just click on our names or our pictures to shoot us e-mail. We like email. A lot. Like "strong-bad" a lot.

Ummmm...Glenn usually says something like, "JUUUIICCCEE" here, so I'll try and mimic that...um...

Rick's having a cow because he can't remember the password and post to the website. Me, being the webmaster, should fetch the password, but I am ultimately too lazy. So then, we got this nice write up in Gamasutra. I'd post their remarks here, but you shouldn't be lazy like me, and go to their site and sign up and read it. The log in is free and Gamasutra doesn't spam people.

Here are some more remarks from our own school.

I think there are only two words to sum this up.

Respeckt Knuckles.

Hey everyone! The website is now officially back up and running correctly for your viewing and posting pleasure. Had a problem with some stupid little h4x0r5's but now we are fine. Important changes!!! Note the link to download the game directly to your right! Also note, we have an official release build up now, and it runs faster and is less in size. A lean, mean fighting machine! Not to be confused with a certain grill...have fun! More pictures of the team and such will be uploaded soon.

Website: Mike Updates the Website!

Remember all those blank pages of nothingness that permeated 4/5th of the website? Now those parts have been elaborated on and contain stuff. After the blissful joy of realizing that we won a spot on the showcase at the IGF, we realized, "wait a second, oh %@$& our website contains nothing!" But now it contains stuff, yeah stuff. Stuff you can read like our post-mortem notes. Stuff you can see, like pictures of us. Or better yet, pictures of the game. You might enjoy seeing the game better than us.

There are also links you can go to.

Better yet, you might want to play the game and find out what Dyadin is all about for yourself and your best friend. Uh...that will be coming. Soon. Mike promises. He will when he sees this webpost.

We have our own domain name now. I'm not sure if USC will give birth to a few rabid kittens over it, but the site is back and functioning. Check out the new look provided by Jenova Chen. The site's a little more organized and soon the other parts will be filled to the brim with stuff for your entertainment. We may even have Dyadin for download one day. Look forward to that.
