We updated Dyadin. A couple months ago. For DiGra. Go ahead, click on the link and experience Dyadin 2.0 with a friend. What's new? We fixed some more memory leaks and that whole thing where it crashes after you die 26 times. We used to tell people that was the punishment for being a terrible player, but in fact it was just a programming glitch. Download and enjoy.

Looks like the Dyadin team has done it again! This time the game has been selected to be featured at the "Point of View" Alternative Games Exhibition held at DiGRA in Vancouver Canada! Go team! Here's a link to the website.

Our game seems to have stumbled across a few web pages out there. I don't know if this violates some weird social blogging taboo, but I'm posting those sites that have linked to us. Maybe this just means we are full of ourselves. Hmmm. Anyway!

THIS...is a MOMENT...frozen IN TIME...
You have to see it. Now that the GDC is over we can show you this, not like we couldn't during the show, but we decided to show you after the show. It's from the first day of GDC while we were setting up our computers to test Dyadin.
Oh and that's Rick's voice.
*UPDATE*
Some more pictures from our GDC adventure. Today, or yesterday, since it's 2 AM as I type this, was the last day of the exhibition and of our GDC adventure. Tomorrow will start a new one: doing all the homework, midterms, and other miscellanous crap that we didn't do because of the GDC.
Until that moment arrives, enjoy the final images from the Dyadin Team's GDC 2005 trip.
 | | Look at what we stole, er, got. Remember children, stealing is wrong...Kinda. |
 | | Also, kids, punching is wrong. Maybe. |
 | | This though...is just wrong. Seriously. |

Dyadin dies(-adin) after you die(-won't do it again) 20 times. That's quite a bug, or an undocumented feature as we like to call it in the software industry. Regardless of our additional features, people seem to like it. For us this is great kleenex testing, since this is also the second time we're really doing any kind of usability testing to speak of.
To be honest, we've never done this before...you know, make a video game, have the judges at a huge independent game competition like it, and then get a boat load of praise for it. Here's some praise from C|Net Download:
"Every so often we run across a download that's so unusual that we're willing to overlook various shortcomings, such as a 36.45MB file size (that's before unzip, folks). This game might not be ready for wide release, but if you're looking for some truly fresh gaming ideas (and luscious graphics A?a?A¬a?? you certainly get your download's worth on visual execution here), check out this two-player collaborative puzzler frpm the smart folk at USC. Yes, USC is now emitting games, and as freeware no less. Go know."
More importantly now, a man in a monkey suit.

 | | The Sony Metreon. If you suddenly feel the urge to part with 10,000 dollars you can remove that burden here and gain a large array of liquid plamsa or something ridiculous like a Playstation. |

I updated the "Team" section to include a link for emailing the team. Just click on our names or our pictures to shoot us e-mail. We like email. A lot. Like "strong-bad" a lot.
Ummmm...Glenn usually says something like, "JUUUIICCCEE" here, so I'll try and mimic that...um...

Rick's having a cow because he can't remember the password and post to the website. Me, being the webmaster, should fetch the password, but I am ultimately too lazy. So then, we got this nice write up in Gamasutra. I'd post their remarks here, but you shouldn't be lazy like me, and go to their site and sign up and read it. The log in is free and Gamasutra doesn't spam people.

Here are some more remarks from our own school.
I think there are only two words to sum this up.

Hey everyone! The website is now officially back up and running correctly for your viewing and posting pleasure. Had a problem with some stupid little h4x0r5's but now we are fine. Important changes!!! Note the link to download the game directly to your right! Also note, we have an official release build up now, and it runs faster and is less in size. A lean, mean fighting machine! Not to be confused with a certain grill...have fun! More pictures of the team and such will be uploaded soon.
|
 | | Yay |
Thank you Glenn. Yes, I am/have updated the website and will continue working on it. For right now, you can see the results of a lot of hard work, even a downloadable version of the game! Please follow the links to the right of the main banner to see the content of the site. (that's right above you now, with all the pretty artwork!). If you click on the section entitled "Links" you'll get the ability to download the actual game and instruction manual. Or you could just click here for it. Have fun and enjoy, please feel free to email us if you like the work or want to yack about it.

Remember all those blank pages of nothingness that permeated 4/5th of the website? Now those parts have been elaborated on and contain stuff. After the blissful joy of realizing that we won a spot on the showcase at the IGF, we realized, "wait a second, oh %@$& our website contains nothing!" But now it contains stuff, yeah stuff. Stuff you can read like our post-mortem notes. Stuff you can see, like pictures of us. Or better yet, pictures of the game. You might enjoy seeing the game better than us.
There are also links you can go to.
Better yet, you might want to play the game and find out what Dyadin is all about for yourself and your best friend. Uh...that will be coming. Soon. Mike promises. He will when he sees this webpost.
|
...The Independent Game Festival that is! Today at around 2:30 pm we learned that Dyadin is going to be on the floor at the IGF! I only have one word for that...
Wooooooooo!!!!
|
We have our own domain name now. I'm not sure if USC will give birth to a few rabid kittens over it, but the site is back and functioning. Check out the new look provided by Jenova Chen. The site's a little more organized and soon the other parts will be filled to the brim with stuff for your entertainment. We may even have Dyadin for download one day. Look forward to that.
